She said her neighbor was unworthy of a first-class seat, spilled hot coffee on her and slapped her in the face, but what the airplane’s captain did shocked the whole cabin. 😱😳😨

Amara had hardly slept the night before. She had sat for a long time by the window of her hotel room, holding a thin folder of documents in her hands. In the morning she was to fly to New York, and she hoped the trip would go smoothly. She had bought the first-class ticket herself, but she hadn’t told even those close to her the reason for the trip.

When Amara took her seat by the window, Jennifer came up to her β€” a well-groomed woman in an expensive suit. She looked Amara over and frowned.

β€” Are you sure you haven’t made a mistake about the row? β€” Jennifer asked, pointing at the seat. β€” The first seats are farther on.

Amara calmly took out her boarding pass.

β€” I’m sitting in my own seat. Here is my ticket.

Jennifer didn’t even glance at it.

β€” These seats are not for just anyone who wants them, but for the elite. And, as I see, someone has apparently decided to play a wealthy lady.

Several passengers turned around. Amara felt tension building in her chest, but she didn’t answer sharply. A flight attendant came over and checked the ticket.

β€” That’s correct, madam. This is Ms. Amara’s seat.

β€” So you’ve decided to play along with her too? β€” Jennifer snapped. β€” No wonder people have stopped respecting solidity.

The flight attendant asked her to sit down and not disturb the other passengers. Jennifer backed off, but the anger didn’t leave her face. She kept glancing at Amara, as if waiting for a convenient moment to continue the argument.

When the plane had already gained altitude, Jennifer walked past Amara with a cup of coffee. She bumped into the armrest, and the hot drink spilled onto Amara’s hand and dress.

β€” Careful! It’s hot! β€” someone from the next row exclaimed.

β€” It’s her own fault, β€” Jennifer replied and sharply slapped Amara in the face.

The cabin fell silent. The flight attendant rushed between them and called the captain. A minute later Captain Reynolds appeared. He asked Jennifer to step aside, and then asked them both to show their identification.

The captain took the documents and first looked at one, then turned over Amara’s ID. Seeing three letters β€” A.W.C. β€” he turned pale.

β€” Amara… β€” he said in an entirely different voice.

Jennifer smirked:

β€” What, now the captain too will pretend that uneducated people have a place in the society of the rich?

But the captain didn’t answer. He looked at Amara as if he had understood that this quarrel could turn into something much more serious. At that moment the cockpit door opened, and an unfamiliar man entered the cabin. What he did next shocked everyone. 😨

The stranger stopped next to the captain. He was a man of about fifty in a dark suit. He looked at Amara’s reddened cheek, then at the ID in Reynolds’s hands.

β€” What is going on here, captain? β€” the man asked. β€” Do you have some kind of problem with my partner?

Reynolds nodded briefly.

Jennifer gave a nervous smirk:

β€” Another ignoramus? β€” she said arrogantly, still not understanding whom she was talking to.

The man turned to her and said:

β€” A.W.C. is the aviation accident investigation commission. Amara heads the team that is checking the safety of this airline after recent complaints from the crew. And I, miss, am the head of this department. Do you have any problems with us?

The cabin fell silent again. Jennifer turned pale.

Amara stood up, holding a napkin to her scalded hand.

β€” I didn’t fly here to check your behavior, β€” she said. β€” I was going to meet the crew and study the reports about a malfunction of the alert system. But now the report will also include how the company protects passengers from attacks on board.

The captain asked the flight attendant to record what had happened and to contact the ground service. Jennifer tried to object, but several passengers had already confirmed that they had seen the blow.

β€” You can’t ruin my life over one misunderstanding, β€” she whispered.

β€” It stopped being a misunderstanding when you hit me, β€” Amara replied.

After landing, Jennifer was handed over to airport staff, and the airline began an official investigation. Later the inspection also revealed a problem with the alarm system, which the crew had long reported but management had put off fixing.

Amara kept her seat in first class, but something else turned out to be more important: her trip helped bring about an inspection that could protect hundreds of passengers. And Captain Reynolds, looking at the ID, understood that a chance quarrel had revealed a truth that the company had tried for too long not to notice.
