Her eighteen-year-old daughter Maya should have been home an hour earlier, but the doctor told her that she had been in an accident and was being operated on urgently. Elena dropped everything and rushed there, hoping for only one thing: that her daughter would live.
Behind the operating room door, doctors fought for the life of Maya, who had suffered severe spinal injuries. Elena sat clenching her palms so hard that her fingers turned white. Again and again she remembered how her daughter had hugged her goodbye that morning and promised to be back for dinner.
