For three years he believed the past meant nothing to him anymore, until he learned that his ex-wife had twins. In a rage, he rushed to another city and burst into her home, and what he did next shocked everyone. π¨π€―π±
Three years ago, Adrian Moretti left Evelyn, certain that he himself had put an end to their marriage. He was used to people not asking him unnecessary questions and not contradicting him. But on that last night, Evelyn didn’t ask him to stay. She only looked at him as if she already knew everything in advance.
Adrian never came back. He threw himself into business, strengthened his influence, and convinced himself that the past no longer mattered and held no value for him. But one day he mistook a stranger for Evelyn. His thoughts became tangled, and Adrian decided, out of simple curiosity, to summon Marcus, the man he trusted more than anyone.
“Find Evelyn. I need her address and information about what she’s doing now.”
“Only that?” Marcus asked.
“Yes, that’s enough.”
Two days later, Marcus laid a photograph on the desk. In it, Evelyn was walking down the street, holding two small children tightly by the hands. The boy and the girl were about the same age, with dark hair and a look that was familiar to Adrian.
He was silent for a long time, then abruptly stood up.
“How old are they?”
“Three years old.”
“Find out everything: where they were born, in which hospital, what their medical records say, and… who their father is. I need all the information.”
“Are you sure you’re ready to hear it?”
“Just do as you’re told.”
A few days later, Adrian learned the twins’ date of birth. They had been born five months after the divorce. The memories he had pushed away for years came back one by one: the last quarrel, Evelyn’s cold gaze, and her words that he hadn’t wanted to hear out back then.
That night Adrian drank alone and dialed her number. He intended to ask about the children, but a man picked up.
“Hello! My wife is busy right now. Who are you? Why are you calling my wife?”
Adrian froze. The voice seemed familiar to him, though he couldn’t remember from where.
“Put Evelyn on.”
“She’s busy and can’t talk.”
“Who are you?”
“Don’t call my wife again!” the stranger answered rudely and hung up.
The line went dead. Adrian threw the phone onto the table and looked at Marcus.
“Find out who he is, fast. And don’t come back without an answer.”
At dawn, Marcus walked into the study with the face of a man who had seen something worse than he’d expected.
“Adrian… You have to… No, it’s better if you look for yourself,” Marcus said anxiously.
By the time Adrian reached the last line, he had clenched the page so hard that it tore. Adrian rose in silence, barely holding back his rage, and took his gun and keys.
“Let’s go!”
Marcus blocked his way.
“You can’t do anything reckless. It’s better to cool down first.”
Adrian shoved him aside with his shoulder, quickly walked out, and got behind the wheel. He drove as fast as he could. Anger clouded his mind. In a couple of hours he crossed an entire state, and by the time he reached the place, he could barely contain himself. He wanted to kick the door in and burst inside, but at the last moment he stopped. What he did next terribly shocked everyone.π€―

Adrian had already raised his foot to kick the door in, but suddenly he noticed a familiar man in the window. It was his cousin Luca. He was embracing Evelyn and tenderly kissing her on the forehead. Adrian decided they had betrayed him and burst into the house.
“How could you do this to me?” he shouted.
Evelyn shielded the children with her body. But the twins looked at Adrian with frightened eyes, and he stopped. His rage suddenly gave way to a heavy realization: before him stood his children.
Luca stepped forward.
“I’m not her husband, Adrian. I helped her when you left. She raised the children alone and didn’t want you to ruin her life again.”
Adrian looked at the medical documents he was still holding in his hand. It was clearly written there: the twins were his children. Evelyn had learned about the pregnancy during their final quarrels, but after the divorce she decided to tell him nothing. She was afraid he would return not for her and the children, but because he wanted to control everything.
Adrian sank to his knees. He had come to accuse them, but for the first time he saw that he himself was to blame.
“I’m not asking you to forgive me,” he said quietly. “Just let me prove one day that I can be there.”
Evelyn didn’t answer. The children carefully approached him, and Adrian wept, understanding that from now on everything would be
