A mob boss searched all over the city for a mysterious blackmailer, not suspecting that she was already standing next to him among the masked guests. But her last words before leaving sent him into shock 🤯😱😨
When Harper Laurent received an offer to head the forensic audit department at a small consulting firm, she decided she could finally start over. She was twenty-five, and she had spent too many nights working to prove that her age didn’t prevent her from understanding complex financial matters. The new office seemed calm and reliable — until one day Harper noticed a strange discrepancy in the documents.
— These payments don’t look like ordinary mistakes, — she told her manager, Mark Duval, spreading several printouts before him. — Three and a half million dollars have disappeared, and in the reports there are deals with companies that apparently don’t exist.
Mark looked at the papers and quickly closed the folder.
— You’ve only just started here, Harper. Maybe you simply don’t know all the details. Don’t jump to hasty conclusions.
— Then explain why the money passed through three fictitious suppliers before reaching an offshore account linked to Dominic Castellano.
This time Mark didn’t answer right away. His silence frightened Harper more than any confession. That same evening she copied the documents onto a small flash drive and sent an anonymous message to Castellano himself: she demanded double the sum and warned that otherwise she would pass the evidence to those who had long wanted to stop him.
There was no reply, but by morning news of the search for the unknown sender was already being discussed around the city.
— Do you understand what you’re doing? — her friend Sofia asked when Harper showed her the invitation to a private masquerade evening. — Castellano’s people will be there. It’s very dangerous. If they catch you, you won’t get out of there.
— I’m sure of my decision, — Harper answered calmly. — If he’s looking for me, I’ll show myself to him. Let him worry a little.
— And if he exposes you?
Harper tucked the flash drive into the inner pocket of her dress.
— I’m not going to hide anymore.
In the hall music thundered, and the masked guests talked about deals and old acquaintances. Harper introduced herself to Dominic as a consultant, exchanged pleasantries with him and soon was already chatting with influential businessmen beside him. Castellano smiled, but kept scanning the hall.
When Harper was about to leave, she approached him once more and leaned toward his ear.
What she said plunged the mob boss into real shock. 😨

— You will marry me, Dominic, — Harper said quietly. — Otherwise tomorrow everyone will learn where the money went and who helped you cover your tracks.
He looked at her for a few seconds, not believing his ears.
— You’re blackmailing me into marriage?
— I’m offering you a choice. You will announce our engagement yourself and say that you trust me. And if you refuse, journalists and investigators will receive the evidence.
Dominic agreed, hoping to find out where the remaining copies were hidden. A few days later he gathered business partners and influential acquaintances to announce the engagement. Harper stood beside him in a light dress, and in her handbag lay that very flash drive.
— Before we raise our glasses, — she said, — Dominic wants to explain something.
She played a recording of his conversation with Mark. The hall fell silent: Castellano’s voice clearly spoke of fictitious companies and of how to frame Harper if she began asking questions. Next, bank documents appeared on the screen.
— You promised to keep quiet, — Dominic hissed.
— I promised to give you the chance to tell the truth yourself.
Investigators were already waiting at the entrance. Mark came too and confirmed who had given the orders. Dominic was detained, and his accomplices soon came under investigation.
Harper did not become his wife. She achieved what she had wanted from the start: the truth about the missing millions no longer belonged to one man.
