She dreamed that her mother would at least be at her side on her wedding day, but instead she heard a cruel refusal and her sisters’ mockery. And then her grandfather rose from his seat and did something that left everyone in shock. 😱🤯😨

After her father’s death, Sophia quickly understood: in the family she was considered a burden. Her mother, Elena, did not hide the fact that her older daughters, Mia and Clara, were her pride, while the youngest was a constant problem. At family celebrations Sophia was interrupted, her successes were called a fluke, and any attempt to object ended the same way.

— You’re making everything about yourself again, — Elena would snap. — No wonder your father got tired of you so early.

Sophia remembered those words, but still hoped that the wedding would be the beginning of something new. She asked her mother to walk her to the altar — not for the sake of nice photographs, but because after her father’s death she wanted, at least once, to feel like a daughter who is loved.

On the wedding day Elena appeared in an expensive dress and spent a whole hour accepting compliments. She posed with Mia and Clara, fixed their hair and laughed with the guests. Sophia she made wait at the entrance until she had finished her conversation.

— Mom, the ceremony will start soon. Will you walk with me? — asked Sophia.

Elena looked her up and down.

— I’ve already walked to the altar twice with my daughters. I’m not going anywhere with you.

— But you promised…

— I promised a lot of things when I still hoped that you would grow up, — Elena interrupted. — You are my greatest disappointment. And don’t make me repeat it in front of everyone.

The sisters stood nearby. Mia smirked, and Clara whispered loudly enough for Sophia to hear:

— Maybe today, at least, she won’t ruin everyone’s mood.

Marco, Elena’s new husband, did not try to stop them.

— Your mother is right. You’ve always known how to turn an ordinary day into a problem, — he said. — Stop demanding attention.

Sophia turned pale. She gripped the bouquet so hard that her fingers hurt, and looked at the guests, who had suddenly found something interesting on the floor. Then her grandfather Daniel rose — the father of Sophia’s late father.

— Step away from her, Elena, — he said, standing between mother and granddaughter. — You’re humiliating her on her wedding day, as if you had waited your whole life for the chance to do it in front of witnesses.

— Sit down, Dad. This is none of your business, — Elena replied sharply.

— Of course it is. You are humiliating my only granddaughter — the only person in your family who has a conscience.

When Elena tried to say something, Daniel did not let her finish and revealed something that shocked everyone. 😳

Daniel looked at Elena, then took an envelope from his inside pocket.

— You told her that her father had grown tired of her. But it was you who pushed him away when he decided to take Sophia and leave you.

— Be quiet, Dad! — Elena shouted.

— He didn’t leave because of Sophia, — Daniel continued. — He found out that for years you had been taking money from the family fund that he had opened for the daughters. When he demanded that you return it, you threatened that you wouldn’t let him see the children.

Someone in the hall gasped. Elena turned pale.

Daniel handed the envelope to Sophia. Inside were her father’s letters and bank statements. In the last letter he explained that he had wanted to talk to his daughter and tell her everything, but had run out of time: a few days after their quarrel he died in an accident.

— She told me Dad didn’t want to see me, — Sophia whispered.

— I was trying to protect you! — Elena cried out, but her voice wavered. — I was young, I was afraid of being left alone…

— And so you made your daughter believe she was unloved? — asked Marco. He took the wedding ring off his finger and laid it on the table. — I didn’t know about the money or the letters. But now I know how you treat those who trust you.

Elena tried to approach Sophia, but she stepped back and took her grandfather’s hand.

— Today I want the person beside me to be the one who told me the truth, — she said.

Daniel walked his granddaughter to the altar. And Elena remained among the guests, for the first time unable to make them look at her with admiration.

After the wedding Sophia returned her father’s letters to the family archive and began a new life — now without anyone else’s lies.
