A man in the hospital knelt before a child and cried, and what happened a few minutes later shocked him.

A man in a dark suit was kneeling before a little girl. His young daughter sat in a wheelchair, crying and reaching out to her father — scared, desperate. The doctors had just said there was nothing more they could do: the girl would never walk.

And at that moment… a boy appeared at the end of the corridor.

He looked homeless: dirty, worn clothes, dusty feet, eyes — unusually deep and serious, beyond his age. He stopped, looked at the man, and quietly said:

— I know you. And I know how to help your daughter walk again. 😥😥

At first, the man was confused. From pain and despair, he was ready to believe anything, yet at the same time the child’s words seemed insane. Even the doctors had tried the impossible and couldn’t give hope.

— What are you saying?.. — the man whispered, not understanding what the homeless boy had just said.

The boy repeated once more:

— I know how to help your daughter.

The man’s despair was so great that, staying on his knees, he began begging the homeless boy, if he could — to make his child start walking.

He didn’t even consider that the boy’s actions could have even worse consequences for his daughter.

The boy approached, knelt before the girl, placed his hand on her knee, and closed his eyes. A few seconds later, what happened amazed the man.

…The girl’s knee twitched — barely noticeable, like a weak electric shock. The man first thought he imagined it. But then the trembling moved up her leg, and the girl gasped sharply, stopping her crying.

— Daddy… — she whispered, looking down at her legs as if seeing them for the first time. — I… feel warm.

The boy removed his hand and slowly opened his eyes. There was no triumph or joy in them — only fatigue, deep, adult.

— It’s only temporary, — he said softly. — For now.

The man jumped up, grabbing the doctor who stood rooted in the corridor.
— Did you see that?! Did you see that?!

But at that moment, the girl cried out — not from pain, but from astonishment. Her foot moved on its own from the wheelchair’s footrest and touched the floor. Then the other.

The corridor filled with noise, voices, rushing footsteps. Someone called the head of the ward, someone the security. And the boy was already rising.

— Wait! — the man ran to him. — Who are you? What did you do?

The child looked up at him. His gaze was too calm for a child, too knowing.

— I didn’t “do” anything, — he replied. — I just returned what had been taken from her too early.

— Who?.. — the man’s voice broke.

The boy didn’t answer. He turned and walked down the corridor — back where he came from. And only when his figure nearly vanished into the bright light at the exit, he threw over his shoulder:

— Now it’s all up to you. If you break her again… next time I won’t be here.

When the man blinked, the boy was already gone.

And the girl, holding onto the edge of the wheelchair, slowly — uncertainly, trembling — tried to stand.
