Alex said this with a smile, while the guests raised their glasses to toast the newlyweds. From the outside it looked like a harmless joke, but Laura knew that look far too well.

Outraged shouts erupted across the hall. Several guests left the celebration immediately, while the rest turned their backs on Alex’s family.
