When I came home from work, I thought everything would be as usual, however when I opened the door and saw my wife humiliating my mother, in that moment I did something I still cannot forgive myself for.
I was coming home from work tired, but deep inside I still felt a small sense of joy. That day had been especially difficult, and I only wanted one thing — to open the door of my home, see my mother’s calm face and my wife’s smile, sit at the table, and forget all the worries of the world for a few hours.
But I still had no idea that this evening would completely destroy my life.
It all started a few hours earlier.
In recent months, my mother had been living with us. She was already elderly, had health problems, and often forgot things. At first, my wife tried to be patient, but over time the frustration building inside her turned into hatred.
That day, my mother accidentally took my wife’s folder of important documents and put it in the wrong place. When, after a long search, my wife found it in the kitchen, she started shouting at my mother.
— You’re doing this on purpose, — she screamed. — I’m already tired of you.
My mother, with a trembling voice, was only trying to defend herself.😨😨
— My dear, I forgot… I didn’t mean to…
But my wife’s anger only grew stronger.
She began to humiliate my mother, saying insulting words, reminding her how “her life had been ruined” because of her. My mother quietly cried and tried to leave the kitchen, but at that very moment my wife picked up the kettle with boiling water.
At first, my mother thought she just wanted to scare her.
But a second later, in a rage, my wife poured boiling water over her.
My mother screamed in pain and fell to the floor.
And at that very moment, when I had already entered the house and partially heard their conversation, I did something I still cannot forgive myself for.
You can see the continuation in the first comment. 👇👇👇
I was completely blinded by rage.
I walked up to my wife, violently pushed her against the wall, and started shouting at her. She tried to say something, but I wasn’t listening. Then I grabbed her arm and literally threw her out of the house, not even allowing her to take her things.
Before I closed the door, the last thing I heard was her crying.
At that moment, it felt like I was doing the right thing.
But then everything changed.
My mother was taken to the hospital. Her burns were severe, but the doctors managed to save her.
And a few days later, I learned the truth that still does not give me peace.
That day, my wife was completely mentally broken. For months she had been under extreme stress, was exhausted and lonely, and in that argument she simply lost control of herself. What she did was terrible and unforgivable… but so was what I did.
I threw her out in the middle of the night without even thinking about where she would go.
That night she got into a car accident.
She survived, but suffered serious injuries.
When I visited her months later for the first time, she said only one sentence:
— I deserved punishment… but not for you to look at me as if you never loved me.
After those words, I was never the same again.
Now my mother lives with me. My wife lives in another city, and we have long been divorced.
But I still cannot forgive myself.
Not only because I couldn’t protect my mother in time…
But also because in a single moment of rage I became someone I no longer recognize.
