That night, Claire was just supposed to come home. After a hard day at work, she was rushing to pick up some documents from the house that were needed to close an important deal, then send them off as quickly as possible for final processing. But a few kilometers from home, the brake pedal suddenly sank to the floor.
“Noβ¦ what’s happening?” Claire gasped, pressing the pedal several times.

But that night, she called her former colleagues and asked them to check the company’s accounts. The result turned out to be worse than she expected. Ethan had lost enormous sums gambling, and then, together with his secretary and Megan, had devised a plan: cut the brake line, fake Claire’s death, and collect the insurance money, her personal savings, and control over her assets.
