The young man quickened his pace, feeling the weight of the body on his shoulders getting heavier by the second. The rain lashed his face, mixing with drops of sweat and tension. He had nearly reached the middle of the road when he noticed a strange movement at the roadside.
There stood a small child, soaked to the bone, with frightened eyes, trying to hold a broken bicycle. Nearby lay an old bag, from which important documents had fallen, as if forgotten or lost in a rush.
At that moment, the young man realized that the man on his shoulders was not the only one who needed help. His heart tightened with worry—he could not leave the child in the rain, but leaving the elderly man was impossible as well.
Without hesitation, he carefully placed the man on the sidewalk near the nearest safe shelter—a small shop with a dimly lit sign.
Then, soaked to the bone, he ran to the child, calmed him, and lifted the bicycle, so they could reach the hospital together.
But as they were nearly at the shelter, a car came flying from the corner of the street, skidding on the slippery road. At the last moment, the young man managed to push the child aside and took the impact himself.
The world around him instantly turned into chaos: rain, screams, squealing brakes. But even lying on the wet road, the young man saw that the man and the child were safe.
