Molly always told herself that the best waitress was the one nobody noticed. For almost three years she had worked at an expensive restaurant where, on any given evening, you could see people whose names never appeared in newspapers, but who were feared even by powerful officials. She didn’t ask unnecessary questions, didn’t listen in on other people’s conversations, and simply did her job honestly.
That evening the restaurant was completely closed to regular customers. A lavish engagement party was being held there for one of the city’s most powerful crime bosses, known to everyone as Victor. Security checked every guest, expensive cars pulled up to the entrance one after another, and the manager kept repeating to the staff:
— No mistakes tonight. If anyone ruins this evening, they won’t get a second chance.
Molly just nodded silently and went on serving tables.
Suddenly, in the middle of the party, the heavy doors of the main entrance slowly swung open. At first no one understood what was happening, but within seconds a huge mastiff began crawling across the marble floor.
