“Look how adorable it is. It’s only thirty dollars. I think we could at least buy one.”
Mark didn’t even look at it.
“Do you even realize how much money you’ve already spent?” he replied coldly.
“This is our baby’s first outfit. There’s nothing unnecessary about it.”
“My child doesn’t need your little whims.”
Laura noticed people beginning to turn and look at them, so she lowered her voice even more.
“Please, don’t make a scene. Everyone’s watching.”
But it was almost as if he had been waiting for her to say that.
“Let them watch! Maybe someone will finally explain to you that you’re living off my money!”
Several shoppers stopped nearby, but no one stepped in.
Laura carefully placed the onesie back on the shelf and took a step backward.
“Alright… We won’t buy it. Let’s just go home.”
But without warning, Mark grabbed her arm so tightly that she winced in pain.

He yanked her toward him and then shoved her with such force that she lost her balance. As she fell onto the cold floor, the only thing she could think about was protecting her pregnant belly.
