After the honeymoon, Liana was sure she had finally started a new life. She had been Nicholas’s wife for only a few weeks and tried her hardest to win over his family, even though she had felt coldness from his mother Céline and his sister Camille from their very first meeting. That Sunday, they came for a family lunch. Liana wore a new dress she had bought specially to meet her husband’s relatives. She wanted to get through the day calmly, without conflict, and hoped that her relationship with his family would improve over time.

“You’re a bit too dressed up today,” she smirked, looking Liana up and down.

The room went silent. Nicholas came closer, and the familiar softness was gone from his eyes.

What happened next was so fast that Liana didn’t immediately register that Nicholas had actually hit her.
“Now apologize,” he said coldly.
Liana slowly raised her eyes to him.
“Maybe now you’ll apologize?”
“You brought all of this on yourself. Don’t you want to apologize to Camille too?”
After those words, something inside Liana finally broke.
She grabbed the pot standing nearby and, in a burst of fury, threw the hot soup right onto her husband.
