Three years ago, Hannah herself had found herself in a terrible situation, her life under threat. After managing to escape, she decided to create a charity organization to help women who had managed to break free from slavery and start a new life. In three years, one woman’s small wish had grown into a serious international program.
Now Hannah, who had recently turned thirty-eight, arrived at a prestigious event celebrating the results of her three years of work. It was on this very day that her organization was officially promised 5 million dollars for building temporary housing for women who had managed to escape.
“You should just relax and enjoy today,” her husband Omar smiled before entering the hall. “I want to see you happy.”
“We’ll relax after the documents are signed,” Hannah replied. “Until everything’s finalized, I don’t trust anyone.”
Because of a staff shortage, Hannah soon started helping out at the event herself: carrying a few glasses, straightening the table settings, and helping guests find their seats. She was dressed in an elegant cream-colored suit, but one of the wealthiest guests of the evening, Lauren Pierce, looked at her with obvious contempt.
“Girl, who allowed you to be here looking like that?” Lauren asked sharply.
Hannah calmly turned to her.
“Is something bothering you, ma’am?”
“Yes, it is. Why does someone like you behave so vulgarly? And who even let you be here dressed like this?”
Several guests had already started filming what was happening on their phones. Hannah tried to step away, but Lauren suddenly grabbed her by the jacket.
“Learn how to dress properly before showing up around decent people!”
There was a sharp ripping sound. Part of the jacket stayed in Lauren’s hand.
The room grew noisy, and dozens of cameras immediately turned toward Hannah. But within seconds, people noticed a man slowly stepping forward.
Omar Al-Rashid, an influential sheikh and international investor, took off his own jacket and draped it over his wife’s shoulders.
“You will apologize to my wife right now,” he said quietly.
Lauren went pale.
“Your… wife?”
At that moment, her boyfriend Mason burst into the room.
